But even so, has any modern president done more for beer? Obama recently enjoyed a beer al fresco at the White House with Dakota Meyer, recipient of the Medal of Honor. His 2009 Rose Garden Beer Summit was a bona fide media event, and in May he stopped in for a widely-photographed pint of Guinness in his ancestral home of Moneygall, Ireland.

The Obama Foodorama blog notes the 44th president is also the first to brew his own beer since George Washington. White House Honey Ale was served to Meyer, and to guests at this year's Super Bowl party.

Visiting Pennsylvania during the 2008 campaign, Obama sampled a Yuengling while watching college basketball at a sports bar. Apparently, despite the fancy homebrew, he is something of a reverse beer snob.
