Calling oneself a “Christian” today has become meaningless. Because the characteristics of a true follow of Jesus have become so murky, the label has become nothing more distinctive than identifying oneself as an American.

But even that term, “American”, is foggy. I am an American. But so was Jeffrey Dahmer, Al Capone, Bill Ayers, Jane Fonda, and Margaret Sanger. Nationality, in most cases, is determined by birth, rather than by belief. You can hate America and still be an American.

But Christianity is a different bird. You are Christian by choice, never by birth. You can be an American and hate Christianity, but you can not be a Christian and hate your fellow man.

Christianity has been hi-jacked. It has become nothing more than the wing of a political party.

Christianity is neither rightwing nor left wing. True Christianity is the heart of the Eagle…the heartbeat of America if you will. Those firm foundations are still responsible for keeping the Eagle in the air. The dipping of the wings only rock the boat."

"A few months ago, Air Force leaders noticed some very strange behavior from pilots in the cockpit of F-22 Raptor fighters. Some pilots sounded like they were drunk on the radio; others couldn't even remember how to use the radio during flights.

Lab tests revealed not alcohol in the pilots' blood, but a host of toxic chemicals including oil fumes, anti-freeze and even propane. The Air Force grounded the entire stealthy F-22 fleet on May 3rd and launched an investigation. This week, the Air Force Times reports that they're still stumped, which is not the best news for the fantastically expensive and problem-prone F-22s.

The Air Force has definitely figured out that toxins are making their way into the cockpit, but they don't know how. The symptoms that the pilots were displaying resemble those of hypoxia, a condition due to a lack of oxygen.

Captain Jeff Haney exhibited the similar symptoms just before he crashed and died in Alaska in November of 2010. Suspecting that the chemicals entered the cockpit through the jet's life support system, the Air Force is investigating the oxygen masks and pressurization systems, but they've yet to find the link.

"At least one U.S. military serviceman has been arrested for allegedly planning another attack on Ft. Hood, Fox News has learned exclusively. According to an Army source, one AWOL soldier is in the custody of the Killeen Police Department near Ft. Hood. He was not captured on base. According to another source, two other U.S. soldiers were also arrested earlier today when they were found in possession of weapons and explosives. Fox News has obtained the names of three possible suspects, but is currently withholding that information.

On Nov. 5, 2009, Maj. Nidal Hasan, an American Army officer, carried out a shooting attack on the Ft. Hood base in Texas that killed 13 people and wounded 30 others. In California, where I live and work, there has been an increasing movement among a segment of legally-armed citizens to carry unloaded sidearms in plain view. This trend is happening elsewhere, but there seems to just be more “activity” around the movement here in the Golden State perhaps because it seems so much more difficult to get a CCW here than in most other states.

In my humble estimation, the video of Officer Matthew Lyons of the Oceanside (Calif.) PD could be a training video for any agency that has to deal with “open carry citizens.” In fact, the video of video below in which Officer Lyons encounters one of those individuals stands in stark contrast to another we posted to PoliceOne last week.
There has been quite a lot of traffic to the video of Canton (Ohio) Patrolman Harless not just here on PoliceOne, but all over the Internet — and his less-than-stellar response to a legally-armed citizen in his sector. I’m told that Harless has been — or soon will be — relieved of his badge. Well, regardless of the outcome of that particular case, there are myriad examples out there of officers encountering an open-carry citizen, and I point to this one with Officer Lyons as a compelling example of “doing it the right way.”
Officer Lyons has been hailed by a handful of bloggers, including one for CBS News which bears repeating here:

“Officer Matt Lyons with the Oceanside Police Department definitely deserves a shout out for this almost 3-minute encounter. Officer Lyons, we salute you, not only for your incredible professionalism, sense of humor, and great on camera demeanor, but also your dedicated 22 years of service in the United States Marine Corps.”
