U.S. debt talks to go on without Obama

U.S. debt talks to go on without Obama: "Posted on Sunday, July 24, 2011 8:57:08 AM by markomalley

U.S. congressional leaders are expected to continue last-minute negotiations on Sunday to reach a bipartisan agreement to head off a government debt default — without the participation of President Barack Obama.

With the White House consigned to the periphery of negotiations Saturday evening, Republicans sought as much as $4 trillion in deficit cuts over a decade as a condition for raising the nation's debt limit by the Aug. 2 deadline.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who took part in the evening negotiations, accused Republican leaders of intransigence, adding he would not accept anything less than a deal that raised the debt limit through 2012."
