Having read quite a few books on Lincoln including most recently, David Herbert Donald‘s masterful biography, I found this tome lacking. Bill should stick to autobiography and political punditry. He will bring people to the subject that haven’t been there before, and that’s all good.

But, Lincoln has been covered and covered, and if you’re going to write about him, you should have something really new to impart – if there is anything left to be said at all.
