For the record, I don’t believe Obama was born in Kenya. And if WND is trying to convince me that middleclass white atheists like giving birth in foreign mud huts, good luck. Some are too posh to push in first-world hospitals!
That said it’s rich of the media to rail against conspiracy theories now (especially when they were creating and/or disseminating conspiracy theories throughout the Bush years with a psychotic vengeance). Journalists have no moral authority – no authority to sniff, no authority to preach, no authority to rewrite history.
Yes, puzzlingly, playing birth certificate politics is acceptable when the player is trying to defeat a member of the Bush family.

Take the 1978 Republican primary in Texas’s 19th congressional district. Or as George W. Bush writes in Decision Points (page 39): “Four days before the election, Reese produced a copy of my birth certificate to prove I had been born back east. How was I supposed to counter that? I responded with a line Dad had once used: ‘No, I wasn’t born in Texas, because I wanted to be close to my mother that day.’”
Alas, the media couldn’t fake tears for Bush.

Also flushed down the media’s memory drain is case 2: The Case of John McCain.
Under the mischief-making headline, “McCain’s Canal Zone Birth Prompts Queries About Whether That Rules Him Out” ace investigator Carl Hulse, raised the natural born-citizen question.

For the New York Times scribe, the issue couldn’t be swept under the carpet. Indeed, the “question has nagged at the parents of Americans born outside the continental United States for generations” claimed Hulse, without poll evidence.
