And when big government has co-opted the “fourth estate” (journalism), as it now has, then “we the people” are confronted with a fearsome master indeed. Almost all of our TV “news” shows are unacknowledged, unchallenged, and unopposed Far Left to Moderate Left, pro-Big Government apologists. Occasionally they will make a daring foray out into the hinterlands of “fly-over country,” and run a slanted expose on what those wacky Tea Party people are up to, but mostly they stick with their schtick—smug, anti-American, elitist doublethink. Which brings me to a personal confession: Joe Sobran has softened my thinking on Lincoln. When I came to study the Civil War, and study it in-depth, over eight years, it occurred to me that, truly, the conflict is more properly named the War for Southern Independence.

The Northern view of the war which I had been spoon-fed in school parrots the earlier English view of the colonial (American) War of Independence — right down to laughing at the notion that the relevant rebels could possibly claim to be fighting for freedom, merely because of the issue of slavery. By the way, the English figured things out the second time around — and rooted for the Confederacy. In that regard, see Sheldon Vanauken‘s The Glittering Illusion.

This Anglo-Northern myth is exactly that — a myth. Because"..................

It is astonishing that Barack Obama seemingly learned nothing from the 2010 national elections in which the Republicans regained control of the House with a net total of 63 seats. For the Democrats it represented the greatest loss in the House midterm election since 1938, which occurred nearly ten years into the Great Depression.

It is the House that determines the spending and borrowing to maintain the nation, though the President traditionally sends a budget. Obama did not.

Indeed, as Speaker of the House, John Boehner, has said, Obama has never put anything on paper. Negotiating Obama’s demands have changed week to week and now day to day.

Debate over the debt ceiling has reached a fever pitch in recent weeks, with each side trying to outdo the other in a game of political chicken. If you believe some of the things that are being written, the world will come to an end if the U.S. defaults on even the tiniest portion of its debt.

In strict terms, the default being discussed will occur if the U.S. fails to meet its debt obligations, through failure to pay either interest or principal due a bondholder.

Proponents of raising the debt ceiling claim that a default on Aug. 2 is unprecedented and will result in calamity (never mind that this is simply an arbitrary date, easily changed, marking a congressional recess).

My expectations of such a scenario are more sanguine."

In particular, someone wanted to know if hypothetically, Barry Soetoro aka Obama, committed treason by selling sensitive military secrets, could he be charged with treason?

The putative president is a civilian and can be indicted by a federal grand jury. If enough evidence exists, he could be tried and convicted. But, as someone who has usurped the office of the president, he cannot be impeached for the same crime since he does not legally occupy the office.

The university hands down a new edict about punctuation — but the world’s grammar nerds will never back down

Grammar lovers today were saddened, shocked, and mightily displeased at the news that the P.R. department of the University of Oxford has decided to drop the comma for which it is so justly famed. As GalleyCat reported, the university’s new style guide advises writers, “As a general rule, do not use the serial/Oxford comma: so write ‘a, b and c’ not ‘a, b, and c’.” Cue the collective gasps of horror. The last time the nerd community was this cruelly betrayed, George Lucas was sitting at his desk, thinking, “I shall call him Jar Jar.”

The serial comma is one of the sanest punctuation usages in the written language. It gives each element of a series its own distinct"..................

“The Post & Email,” I saw there was an article by one Neil Turner entitled “Why Calls For Impeachment Process Are Still On The Table”, so after skimming the headlines, I read it first.

I can’t help myself, I love the word, “impeachment”. It’s a lovely word. Close your eyes and say the word slowly —- “im-peach-ment” — and"................

(Jul. 19, 2011) — Recently The Post & Email was contacted by someone who stated that he was told by very reliable business contacts within his company that they were provided information before the 2008 presidential election that Barack Hussein Obama II was born in Mombasa, Kenya.

The interviewee stated that his coworkers were told by an assistant to an under-secretary within the Kenyan government that Obama’s birth record existed in Kenya, and that the information was not difficult at the time to obtain.
