GOP establishment outsider Ron Paul continues to poll in high numbers when hypothetically pitted against Barack Obama. Indeed a newly released survey today indicates that the two are almost tied in a dead heat.

The respected pollster Rasmussen reports that Ron Paul earns 38% of the vote to President Obama’s 39% in a national phone poll of 1000 likely voters conducted last week.

It seems that Paul’s Ames straw poll victory and his performance in the Iowa debate recently have resulted in a bump in his popularity amongst voters, While Obama’s continued vacations and dismal handling of the economic downturn have resulted in record low approval ratings.............
