The true patriot is motivated by a sense of responsibility and out of self-interest for himself, his family, and the future of his country to resist government abuse of power. He rejects the notion that patriotism means obedience to the state. Resistance need not be violent, but the civil disobedience that might be required involves confrontation with the state and invites possible imprisonment.
Peaceful, nonviolent revolutions against tyranny have been every bit as successful as those involving military confrontation. Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., achieved great political successes by practicing nonviolence, and yet they suffered physically at the hands of the state. But whether the resistance against government tyrants is nonviolent or physically violent, the effort to overthrow state oppression qualifies as true patriotism."

With very little time left on the clock to save the Patriot Act from expiring on Friday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had to work some procedural gymnastics to get past Sen. Rand Paul's many objections (and amendments), as well as a number of members in his own party.
Sen. Reid basically killed his current bill and and opted to take up a House small business bill (it's in a form that's considered filibuster-proof as far as starting debate goes). Neither Rand Paul nor anyone else can object to this. Reid then amended the House bill with the entire text of the Patriot Act extension.
In doing so, Sen. Reid has essentially extended the Patriot Act although there are some steps that must still take place; it will be likely Thursday before a cloture vote can occur. It's unclear whether Reid can get to final passage in time, but these things have a way of working themselves out."

I recently had a well-meaning police lieutenant tell me that his primary concern was that his officers were protected. That is all well and good, and I certainly understand his concern for his officers. However, when a man or woman puts on the uniform of a police officer (or sheriff's deputy), he or she is saying that they are willing to sacrifice their lives in order to make sure that the citizens of their community stay protected.
The 'us versus them' attitude of many police officers today is very harmful to the principles of freedom and liberty."

A clerk at a Borders bookstore in California has been telling customers that the hot-selling "Where's the Birth Certificate?" has been withdrawn from the market by the publisher – basing his answers on a fraudulent story published by Esquire.
The issue was noticed by a WND reader, who reported calling the Borders store in Northridge, Calif., seeking the book. He reported via e-mail:
A subsequent telephone call to the store by WND confirmed the conversation, as a clerk said, "I think they pulled it."
"We had it, but I'm almost certain the publisher pulled it," he continued. "They didn't figure anyone would buy the book once the birth certificate was disclosed."
When pressed to check the facts, the clerk returned after a few minutes and confirmed that the store, in fact, had found "one copy" of the book "in the back."

I said many people that have examined the online image have stated it was indeed a manipulated document. He said well they must be right, in a smart-a-- tone. Anyway, after that he put me on a hold for a few minutes and then came back on and said he searched and they do not carry the book and said he was just told the publisher pulled the book."Support WND's "Esquire Justice Fund" to support lawsuits against Mark Warren, Esquire and the Hearst Corporation for its malicious attack on Jerome Corsi's book.
