In the five months after Houston voters forced city officials to turn off a camera surveillance system that fined motorists for running red lights, traffic accidents at those 50 intersections with 70 cameras have decreased 16 percent, according to recently released data.

The drop in accidents surprised Houston police administrators who say a possible explanation is the unusually dry weather during recent months has made driving conditions safer.

They also wonder if years of electronic monitoring have made Houstonians better, if not more cautious, drivers.

Assistant Chief Brian Lumpkin said he had assumed accidents at those intersections were increasing since HPD is still receiving raw data from the camera vendor indicating motorists were running lights with much greater frequency at many intersections...

The White House correspondents’ dinner might have been two weeks ago, but President Barack Obama continued his comedy routine yesterday in El Paso, Texas, only this time Donald Trump wasn’t the butt of the jokes. Instead, during a speech on immigration, the president mocked Republicans at large, the rule of law, and any American who takes the defense of our nation seriously.

Respectfully, Mr. President, illegal immigration and border security are no laughing matter.

But to the president, they apparently are, especially when it provides fodder for a purely political speech, delivered amid a round of campaign fundraisers in the Lone Star State. After claiming that his administration has “gone above and beyond” Republicans’ calls for immigration reform (which he hasn’t), Obama launched into an all-out assault on the GOP:

The New York Times, quoting administration sources, says the president was in control and fully committed to the Osama bin Laden assassination. I am more skeptical.

Did Barack Obama really want to assassinate Osama bin Laden? He probably did at some point, because he gave the ultimate order, or allowed it to happen. But I suspect the president was deeply ambivalent.

It's not just his postmodern worldview that suggests this reluctance. It is the discombobulated aftermath of the killing, the weirdly botched reportage featuring such events as Cabinet members in the situation room supposedly watching a (we learned) nonexistent streaming video of the action and the statement that bin Laden — under surveillance for months from a CIA safe house — was living in a posh million dollar mansion.


That was dialed down within a day or two to $250,000 and then revealed, in videos, to be close to a slum. In fact, OBL's squalid living conditions made the hated Guantanamo seem like the Four Seasons. If the SEALs had taken him alive, it would have been an upgrade.

The Honolulu hospital indicated on the Obama birth record released by the White House barred WND from its premises and threatened to call police in a visit seeking medical records of the president's mother. 

Kapi'olani Medical Center also has hidden away the letter President Obama purportedly wrote Jan. 24, 2009, naming the hospital as his birthplace.

Sen. Sam Slom, Hawaii's only Republican state senator, confirmed to WND at a meeting in Honolulu at his legislative office May 4 that Kapi'olani now has put the letter in a safe.

Nothing that would commemorate Honolulu and Kapi'olani as the president's place of birth is currently on display at the Hawaii Department of Health or at Kapi'olani Medical Center. 

"At first Kapi'olani told us the letter was put up in the administrative area of the hospital because the hospital was worried somebody might try to steal it," Slom said, "even if the letter was a facsimile."

I have no Idea how the Obama Campaign got my email, but imagine my surprise when I received this in my in box. It wasn't bad enough that his mug was all over the news channels this morning as he blatantly regurgitated lie after lie about his so called accomplishments in making the border safer while shamelessly attacking Republicans for standing in the way of immigration reform, but now I had to read more of the same ridiculous assertions from his campaign.

Honestly, they must actually believe that their base lacks any hint of intelligence or common sense. This guy had majorities in both houses of Congress for two years, yet he failed to act on immigration reform but now that he is in campaign mode it's suddenly top priority for him and it's the big bad racist Republicans that are standing in the way. Nothing like a little demonizing to push your Dream Act agenda while filling up the campaign coffers. How Obama-esque!

I don't know about you, but I'm persuaded the birth certificate released by Barack Obama's White House is fake, phony, a fraudulent forgery.
Jerome Corsi, who has personally investigated Obama's constitutional eligibility more seriously than anyone else, agrees.
Why?

- Why release only a digital image of a document this controversial – one that cannot, according to forensics experts, be tested for authenticity?
- Why would Kapiolani Medical Center still be so sensitive about Obama's birthplace as to refuse all inquiries about Stanley Ann Dunham's hospital stay – even threatening this week to call the police when the non-threatening 64-year-old Ph.D. and best-selling author Corsi merely had some questions to ask?

- Now that Obama has claimed the hospital as his birthplace, why would Kapiolani still maintain an air of secrecy about it rather than celebrate and mark the historic birth of the first black president and the first from the state of Hawaii?
- Why the anomalies associated with the document – including the so-called "layering" as seen by amateur and professional sleuths who have examined it?
- Why the extraneous pencil markings found on both the White House release and the obvious earlier forgery showing a Kenyan birth?

From next year, new phones and other hand-held devices will be required to be fitted with special chips to receive the alerts, which will also be sent by state and local authorities. Users will be able to opt out of every type of alert except those from the president, said the Federal Communications Commission.




The system will include alerts about missing children and will supersede all other phone traffic to avoid delays.

Mr Obama, who has been dubbed the "texter-in-chief" thanks to his devotion to his BlackBerry and heavy use of text messages during his 2008 campaign, may face criticism from libertarians for the compulsory nature of the presidential alerts.

But officials see the system, known as Personal Localized Alerting Network, or Plan, as a logical progression from alerting the public via radio and television.
"The lesson that was reinforced on 9/11 was the importance of getting clear and accurate information to the public during a crisis," said Michael Bloomberg, the mayor of New York, where the scheme will be deployed first next year. It will then move to Washington and most other large cities.

Osama bin Laden, mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks, is now an applause line in a presidential campaign speech.

Bin Laden’s name came up a couple of times in Obama’s address Tuesday evening at a fund-raising event in Austin, Texas. 

Early in Obama's appearance, someone shouted out, “Thank you for getting Bin Laden!’’

Obama said that was a “case in point’’ – a reason for voters to let him “finish what we started.’’ 

Later, Obama ticked off what he described as his administration’s accomplishments: lifting the ban on gays in the military; bringing troops home from Iraq. 

And then: “And because of the extraordinary bravery of the men and women who wear this nation’s uniform and the outstanding work of our intelligence agencies,’’ Obama said, “Osama bin Laden will never again threaten the United States.’’

The crowd roared. 

While the president has basked in the success of the operation, Bin Laden's sons released a statement Tuesday criticizing the administration, saying the U.S. broke international law in killing an unarmed man. 

In Washington, Vice President Biden, coming off another round of deficit talks, was asked by reporters whether Bin Laden's killing at the hands of the U.S. military was illegal.

President Obama flew into the border city of El Paso Tuesday, no doubt over the wildfires that have plagued the politically red state and whose disaster he has chosen to virtually ignore.

He may have also passed the El Paso City Hall, which last summer became a war zone as gunfire from the Mexican side pockmarked the building.

He was there to tout his plans for "comprehensive immigration reform" (aka amnesty) across the border from Ciudad Juarez, one of the most violent cities in the world. In the past year alone, 3,111 civilians were murdered, many of them victims or targets of violence stemming from turf battles in Mexico's raging drug war.

Obama is touching all of his political bases as he continues his 2012 re-election bid, this time hoping to pump up dwindling Hispanic support by once again trumpeting the liberal open-borders mantra.

"It will reflect his (Obama's) commitment to comprehensive immigration reform," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said of the speech on Monday.

We would prefer a reinforced commitment to border security.

Documents obtained by WND indicate the Kenyan government investigated the possibility that President Obama was born in the East African nation.
Two letters purportedly written by Kenya's immigration secretary during the 2008 U.S. presidential election campaign stated that officials in Nairobi could not find evidence Obama was born in Kenya. But the official said the government had "information" that relevant birth records may have been removed or were missing.

Emmanuel Kisombe, the permanent secretary in the Ministry for Immigration and Registration of Persons, wrote a letter in July 2008 in reply to a letter from the U.S. ambassador in Nairobi that raised the possibility with Kenyan officials that Obama was born in their country.

President Obama says Republicans will "never be satisfied" by the amount of border protection he has ordered.

"Even though we've answered these concerns, I've got to say i suspect there's still some who are trying to move the goal posts on us one more time. You know, they said 'we needed to triple the border patrol.' 

Well, now they're going to say we need to quadruple the border patrol, or they'll want a higher fence. Maybe they'll need a moat. Maybe they'll want alligators in the moat. They'll never be satisfied.

(CNSNews.com) – President Barack Obama told a border crowd in Texas today that he had addressed the border security concerns of Republicans, and now was calling on GOP lawmakers to support his push to grant legal status to the nation’s estimated 12 million illegal aliens. 

Obama made his remarks in El Paso, which is just across the border from Juarez, one of the most violent cities in Mexico.

“So, we have gone above and beyond what was requested by the very Republicans who said they supported broader reform as long as we got serious about enforcement,” Obama said to a supportive crowd. “But even though we’ve answered these concerns, 

I suspect there will be those who will try to move the goal posts one more time.”

“They’ll say we need to triple the border patrol,” said the president. “Or quadruple the border patrol. They’ll say we need a higher fence to support reform. Maybe they’ll say we need a moat. Or alligators in the moat.”

The president offered essentially the same proposal that was considered by Congress in 2005 and 2007.

“The question is whether those in Congress who previously walked away in the name of enforcement are now ready to come back to the table and finish the work we’ve started,” he said. “We have to put the politics aside.”

At one point in the speech, 

Obama said, “They wanted a fence,” which prompted boos from the crowd before he said, “Well, that fence is now basically complete.”

More than a week after the White House unearthed President Obama's original, long-form, Hawaii birth certificate, only 48% of Republicans polled said they believe he was born in the United States. 

In a poll conducted by Public Policy Polling from May 5-8 of 610 Americans who usually support Republicans in primaries, 34% said they did not believe Obama was born in the U.S. while 18% said they still aren't sure.

Pundits, academics, and Republican activists in Georgia want to make this perfectly clear: Paul Broun is an accidental congressman.”I was flabbergasted when he won the election,” admits Jim Box, one of many eminences in the Georgia Republican Party who declined to endorse the 61-year-old house call doctor before his upset victory in a special election last July. Box runs the GOP in Clarke County, which surrounds Athens and includes the University of Georgia; it’s the area that gave Broun his winning majority. “All the long-term historical indicators,” says Merle Black, “indicate that Broun should have lost.” Black, an Emory University political scientist with a peerless knowledge of Southern politics, bets that Broun will serve one term and lose the next Republican primary. Box agrees.

It’s easy to see why they’re skeptical. Broun, a self-described “strict constitutionalist,” believes that the income tax should be abolished, that civil liberties degraded since 9/11 should be restored, and that fetuses deserve American citizenship. He has been married four times; opponents grumble that he performs house calls because hospitals won’t hire him. This isn’t the usual background of somebody who gets elected in Georgia.

So how did Broun get to Congress? After Rep. Charlie Norwood (R-Ga.) died of cancer last February, 10 candidates—six Republicans, three Democrats, and one Libertarian—fought for his seat. The entire Republican establishment, from Norwood’s widow to local party leaders, endorsed a venerable state senator named Jim Whitehead. To them, Broun was a meandering fringe candidate who had squandered his good name (his father was a state senator from Athens) in three previous defeats: a 1990 House race, a 1992 House primary, and a 1996 Senate primary. In the last contest, he finished fourth, with only 3 percent of the vote.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) asked Tuesday if the White House had an "enemies list" in light of the National Labor Relations Board's complaint against Boeing for moving some of its operations to South Carolina.

The complaint stems from Boeing's decision to move some of its production line for the Dreamliner jet to the right-to-work state to avoid the work stoppages that have hampered the company in the state of Washington. The labor board contends that the move is retaliation against unionized workers, while Boeing says it is a business decision designed to keep production running smoothly.

Speaking at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce with several other GOP lawmakers and business lobbyists, Paul implied that President Obama was playing politics, since the complaint could see Boeing move jobs out of South Carolina.

"I have a question for the president. Mr. President, do you have an enemies list? Is this decision based on the fact that South Carolina appears to be a Republican state, has two Republican senators? Is this decision based on the fact that South Carolina is a right-to-work state? Are they on your enemies list?" Paul said.

The freshman senator also mentioned a draft executive order under consideration by the White House that would have government contractors disclose their political contributions.

"Will you now punish contractors who have given money to Republican candidates?" Paul asked.
