"Since American liberals don't have the guts to say it, allow me: The Rev. Terry Jones hasn't done anything wrong. Nothing."
So writes my friend and conservative radio host Michael Graham in the Boston Herald. And on this, I think Michael's nuts.
Graham is referring to Jones, the pastor of a tiny fringe church in Florida, who held a Monty Pythonesque "trial" for the Koran and, to the surprise of no one, found the book guilty and then set it on fire. While the stunt got blessedly little attention in the United States, foreign media picked it up, and some radical clerics overseas used the incident to foment murderous pogroms against Westerners.
Various politicians, led by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), responded by demanding that Jones be held "accountable." "Free speech is a great idea," Graham insisted, "but we're in a war." He went on to claim: "During World War II, you had limits on what you could do if it inspired the enemy."
Huh?
Sure, wartime censorship is an American pastime. During World War I, under President Woodrow Wilson, we not only shuttered newspapers, we unleashed goon squads on dissidents and imprisoned critics of the war. During World War II, FDR was somewhat less heavy-handed. Still, the people being censored weren't those demonizing the "Kaiser's Huns" or the Nazis or the Japanese. It's never been a crime to say bad things about the enemy.
Even if the senator's arguments are a hot mess, he has a point. We're in a different kind of war fought in an age in which news travels the world, uncensored and often distorted, with the speed of a mouse click. And in that context, there's simply no way to spin Jones' idiotic stunt as anything other than morally ugly and tactically unhelpful.
If, as we are so often told, the Muslim world is enduring a civil war between the crazies and the moderates, what good comes from Koran-burning? It offends "good" and "bad" Muslims alike. Moderate Muslims who seek to yank their societies out of the Dark Ages surely winced at Jones' stunt, and jihadists undoubtedly celebrated their propaganda windfall.
The fame-hungry pastor prattles about how torching the Koran is an act of resistance to the "Islamification" of America. Come on. Yes, the left has an infuriating double standard by which devout Muslims are delicate flowers who must be defended from American "Islamophobia" and wildly overhyped "anti-Muslim backlash," while far less illiberal and bigoted (by liberal standards) devout American Christians are to be feared, mocked and opposed. But that's a product of the internal inanities of multiculturalism and political correctness, not the creeping Islamification of America.
Michael Graham is correct when he says that Jones isn't culpable for murder -- the guilt falls squarely on those with blood on their hands.
But he and others also say there's nothing wrong with burning the Koran. This represents an astonishing evolution in the right's attitude toward free speech that has been unfolding for the last decade or so. Traditionally, the conservative argument about free expression went like this: "Yes, you have the right to say (or do) X, but that doesn't mean you should say it, and it doesn't mean I can't criticize it."
Burning the Bible, "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" or, yes, the Koran, is a shameful and brutish act. And failure to criticize it can sometimes be legitimately, or at least predictably, interpreted as an endorsement.
That said, conservatives have been admirably consistent in their new free-speech absolutism. In 2007, Dinesh D'Souza claimed in "The Enemy at Home" that liberals were to blame for 9/11 because their cultural licentiousness aroused Muslim hatreds. Conservatives rejected the thesis almost unanimously on the grounds that blaming our freedoms for Muslim terror is absurd and dangerous.
The analysis is still correct. But that doesn't mean there's "nothing wrong" with indefensible speech -- on the left or the right.

The ominous threat of a government shutdown dominated the news last week. The media weren't wrong to cover it as a dramatic debate, but all of the hype and horror looked a little bizarre by the weekend -- like wide-eyed, screaming hurricane warnings on the Weather Channel followed by a sunny calm.
When the deal was struck, the TV pundits quickly moved on to how there were sharper, harsher battles ahead over much larger chunks of federal spending. That's true. But in hindsight, the entire shutdown fight looks by comparison like a war over who was splitting the pizza delivery bill tip. The $38 billion in spending cuts is a bit of an achievement when Obama didn't want to cut anything -- but it's still the drop in the proverbial $3.7 trillion bucket.
Instead of fighting over who's the "winner" in this small skirmish, let's just focus on a few obnoxious shutdown spins.....continues on and on.....

The size of government threatens the American way of life as we know it. The solution is straightforward -- cut government. A vibrant grassroots movement insists that it happen, and Washington is lousy with rival plans for how to go about it.
The social threat to the American way of life is as dire, if not more so. But it is more insidious, and more complicated. No grassroots movement has mobilized against it, and no high-profile bipartisan commission is suggesting remedies. Yet it proceeds apace, all but ignored except in the lives of Americans.
Among those trying to sound the alarm is Charles Murray of the American Enterprise Institute, an author and a thinker who has a well-earned reputation for prescience and fearlessness. In a bracing lecture on "The State of White America," he notes that America has long had an exceptional civic culture. "That culture is unraveling," he warns. "America is coming apart at the seams. Not the seams of race or ethnicity, but of class."
Murray takes whites as his subject to avoid the question of whether racism is responsible for the problem he describes, namely the "emergence of classes that diverge on core behaviors and values."
Murray identifies what he calls the "founding virtues," such as marriage, industriousness and religiosity, which have always been considered the social basis of self-government. He looks at whites aged 30-49 and divides them into the top 20 percent socio-economically and the bottom 30 percent. The top tier is basically the upper middle class, the bottom the working class. He finds two worlds, increasingly separate and unequal.

The Army is threatening to dismiss and jail an active-duty lieutenant colonel who says he won't obey military orders until he knows that President Obama is in the Oval Office as a constitutionally eligible president, according to his supporters.
A statement given to WND today by Margaret Hemenway, who is acting as a spokeswoman for the case involving the American Patriot Foundation and Army Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin, said Lakin is "undaunted" and has not changed his position.
Lakin announced his position with a video stating he would not follow orders because he was not sure of their legality under Obama, who has concealed personal information that could confirm he meets the constitutional requirement that a president be a "natural born citizen."...

The senior senator from New York was on to something when he complained about ideology getting in the way of spending cuts. Just not in the way he would have us believe.
Appearing on MSNBC on Friday before the budget deal was finally cut, Sen. Charles Schumer launched a pre-emptive blame strike. "We are on the one-yard line," he complained, "but Republicans in the House are making a goal-line stand on women's health, which has nothing—nothing—to do with the budget." The reference was to a GOP bid to strip Planned Parenthood, America's largest abortion provider, of hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars.
Mr. Schumer was not alone. Sen. Patty Murray (D., Wash.) advanced a similar argument. "[W]hat they are saying to us today," she declared, "is that if you want to keep the federal government open, you have to throw women under the bus." Ditto for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, who kept insisting that the only thing between a shutdown and a deal was GOP social ideology.
Whoa there! Might there be another way to read this?
In the end, President Barack Obama was the one who refused to blink on Planned Parenthood. Another way of saying it is this: The president was willing to shut down the entire federal government rather than see Planned Parenthood's federal funding cut.
According to press accounts leaked by Democratic aides, House Speaker John Boehner argued for the funding cut late into the evening.
The president answered, "Nope, zero." He then said, "John, this is it." Mr. Boehner accepted the budget deal without that cut.
A Republican aide confirmed more or less the same account to me. He said it was "chilling" to see how inflexible Mr. Obama was. You might call it ideological.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said Tuesday that he's considering a filibuster of the budget agreement to fund the government for the remainder of this fiscal year.
Paul, who said yesterday that he would vote against the agreement reached last Friday to cut $39.9 billion between now and September, acknowledged that he's considering waging a filibuster, which would make it so that leaders need 60 votes to pass the deal and advance it to President Obama's desk.
"Yes, but we haven't really made a final decision on that yet," Paul said on conservative talker Sean Hannity's radio show.
A filibuster would make it difficult for the Senate to pass the budget deal by midnight Friday, when the government's funding will run out.
Paul acknowledged that even if he were to filibuster, it's unlikely that he'll attract 40 other senators' votes in order to sustain his procedural roadblock to the budget deal.
But such a move might crystallize conservative dissatisfaction with the deal brokered by House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) in last minute negotiations with Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.). Conservatives are angry the deal falls short of the benchmark of $100 billion in cuts below Obama's original budget proposal for this fiscal year.
Paul said that he would be more inclined to block action in the upper chamber if led to consideration of the Senate GOP's balanced budget amendment.
But even if it came up in the Senate, Paul said that House GOP leaders would be reluctant to bring it up since Rep. Paul Ryan's (R-Wis.) budget does not balance out for at least two decades.
"My sense is that because it takes 28 years to balance the budget under Ryan's plan, the House does not want to pursue a balanced budget amendment," he said.
"The problem is that I don't think I have the leverage now."
A spokesman for Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said passing Ryan's budget plan is the first priority.
“The Balanced Budget Amendment, which must be ratified in the states, represents a long-term option, but right now we’re focused on the Ryan budget we hope to pass this week, which will put out us on a path to pay down the debt," Boehner spokesman Michael Steel said.

Everything that you own is slowly being taken away from you. It is being done purposely and it is being done by design. Many Americans like to think of themselves as "well off", but as will be demonstrated below, we don't "own" nearly as much as we think that we do. The truth is that most of us have to frantically run around accumulating wealth as rapidly as we can so that we can somehow stay ahead of the rate that wealth is being taken away from us.
The entire system is designed to take what you have away from you. There are many ways that this is accomplished - taxation, inflation, debt, interest, fines, fees, tickets, government seizures and good old-fashioned corporate greed. If you tried to just sit back and do nothing but hold on to the wealth that you already have you would find out that it would disappear rather quickly. When you take the time to really analyze our system the conclusion is undeniable - everything that you think that you own is being systematically taken away from you..........................................

I am not trying to sort out the broader issue of President Obama being born in the United States or not. However, I do want to point out a small, yet important, point regarding the names of documents flying around this issue; a point that even Donald Trump oversees.
President Obama produced a Certification - not a Certificate - of Live Birth. While both are accepted as "birth certificates" in HI, some interesting information would be learned if one reads the websites of Hawaii's Deportment of Health and of the Department of Hawaiian Homelands:
•Only the Certificate of Live Birth (the one Obama did not produce) is considered an "original birth certificate." (read the Homeland website) •"A person born in a foreign country who has been legally adopted in the State of Hawaii," is eligible to apply for an amended birth certificate. (Read the Health website) •"Although original birth certificates (Certificates of Live Birth) are preferred for their greater detail, the State Department of Health (DOH) no longer issues Certificates of Live Birth.When a request is made for a copy of a birth certificate, the DOH issues a Certification of Live Birth." (Read the homeland web site) The above information gives us two options as to why President Obama produced a Certification of Live Birth and not an original birth certificate, aka Certificate of Live Birth. A) Obama lost his original kosher document and therefore the state as a replacement gave him only a Certification document, since they don't provide anymore copies of the original. B) Obama was born outside of HI, but after his guardians followed through the requirements (a "certified copy of the adoption decree or the certificate of adoption, and payment of fees"), Obama received an amended birth certificate.

Miki Booth has just reported via telephone to The Post & Email that a man born and currently residing in Hawaii went to the Department of Health this morning and requested a copy of his long-form birth certificate. He was refused, told that it was no longer available and that all he could obtain is the short-form document.
The man had obtained his short-form “Certificate of Live Birth” several weeks ago and reported to Miki that the request form had had two different boxes which could be checked: one indicating that the short-form was being requested and the other that the long-form was desired.
Today, the man reported that the form has been changed such that that choice is no longer available.
Therefore, when Dr. Chiyome Fukino spoke with MSNBC on Monday morning, she apparently was not lying when she said that long-form birth certificates are no longer available.
But why was that change made? Who ordered the change in policy? Was it made because Donald Trump has demanded that Obama release his original, detailed birth certificate to support his claim of a Hawaii birth?
The witness who accompanied the gentleman has a daughter who obtained a copy of her long-form birth certificate last month. The document was provided to Miki Booth, who supplied it to The Post & Email here.

"I think people want the truth. I think they're tired of politicians. They're tired of politically correct stuff." Trump told CBN News.

That could be one of the reasons behind his recent bold questioning of President Obama's birth certificate. Recent polls show Trump gaining against other potential presidential contenders.
"I would much prefer that Barack Obama was a great president He's one of our worst presidents ever and something has to be done, because it's only going to get worse." Trump said.
In our wide-ranging interview, "The Donald," as he is known, was in rare form, whether standing up for American business interests or discussing who gets the oil in Iraq once the U.S. leaves.
"I look at what's happening with so many other nations ripping off the United States, we're like a laughing stock." Trump said. "We won the war. We take over the oil fields."
"There's no way on my watch that we leave those oil fields and let Iran take them over," he said. "That ain't going to happen."

Barack Obama's deal with the president of Mexico to allow Mexican trucks to carry their loads onto U.S. highways and roads is new evidence of his high-handed solo behavior that has become Standard Operating Procedure in the administration. Here are 10 reasons why Obama's plan is dangerous and must be stopped by Congress and public protest.
1. Obama's deal with President Felipe Calderon, announced on March 3, bypasses Congress, defies the wishes of the American people, and looks like the action of a Third World dictator who thinks representative government is a nuisance and can be ignored. Congress made its wishes emphatically clear in 2007 when it voted to continue our ban on Mexican trucks. The House roll-call vote was 411 to 3, and the Senate's was 75 to 23.
2. Obama's deal is a direct attack on the jobs available to U.S. truck drivers because it helps big-business interests cut their costs by hiring cheaper Mexican drivers. Obama's deal is also an attack on small business (i.e., the owner-operated and independent truck drivers) who constitute the big majority of U.S. trucks.
3. The claim that Obama's deal is reciprocal (i.e., U.S. trucks will be allowed to drive into Mexico) is so cynical that we can hardly believe anyone says it with a straight face. "South of the border down Mexico way" (in the words of the old popular song) is the most dangerous war zone in the world (more dangerous than Afghanistan or Libya), where U.S. truck drivers would become the targets of hijackings, theft, murder, kidnappings and even beheadings committed by the drug cartels.
4. Built into the Obama deal is the sneaky imposition of costs on both U.S. truck drivers and U.S. taxpayers. Each truck will be required to install an EOBR (electronic on-board recorder) costing $3,000 plus maintenance fees: U.S. drivers at their own expense and Mexican trucks as a gift from U.S. taxpayers paid out of the Highway Trust Fund. U.S. taxpayers are already paying $1,600 each for many Mexican trucks to replace their old mufflers with catalytic converters.
5. Obama's deal will make it easy for Mexican trucks to bring in loads of illegal aliens and illegal drugs. Border inspection will be a farce, maybe only one in 10 trucks inspected, perhaps merely one in 20.
6. Opening our southern border to Mexican trucks will be a giant step toward the goal of creating a North American Union with open borders between Mexico, the U.S. and Canada -- a proposal launched by President George W. Bush using a website called Security and Prosperity Partnership (since deactivated). Obama is advancing the plan under less threatening names -- the March 23, 2010, State Department fact sheet titled "United States-Mexico Partnership: A New Border Vision," a Nov. 30, 2010, "Trusted Traveler" agreement with Mexico signed by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, and a Feb. 4, 2011, declaration signed by Obama with Canada called "Beyond the Border: A Shared Vision for Perimeter Security."
7. When Mexican truck drivers have their layovers and turn-arounds in the U.S., what's to prevent them from enjoying a frolic and diversion? They could use that time to father a baby who would then be proclaimed a U.S. citizen and get generous financial benefits and handouts provided by U.S. taxpayers.
8. We can assume that Mexican truck drivers will not be required to speak and read English, as U.S. law requires. The previous secretary of transportation, Mary Peters, stated at a Senate hearing that if drivers respond to test questions in Spanish, the test-taker nevertheless checks the box that they are "English proficient."
9. While U.S. truck drivers are strictly limited to the number of hours per day they can be on the road, there is no way to figure out how many hours a Mexican truck driver has been on the road when he clocks in at the border. Has he been driving the typical Mexican 20-hour day?
10. Mexican trucks will make highway safety for Americans a major problem. We have no way to know a Mexican driver's record of accidents, alcohol or drugs, or a Mexican truck's record of brakes or emissions. Mexico doesn't bother with records or regulations.
Don't let anybody get by with saying that NAFTA requires us to admit Mexican trucks because it's a treaty. It isn't -- NAFTA never complied with the treaty provision in the U.S. Constitution and is merely a law passed by Congress that can be changed or overturned.
Tell your member of Congress to take action to cancel Obama's truck deal with the Mexican president. Solo deals like this one cannot be tolerated under constitutional government.

Obama is advancing the plan under less threatening names -- the March 23, 2010, State Department fact sheet titled "United States-Mexico Partnership: A New Border Vision," a Nov. 30, 2010, "Trusted Traveler" agreement with Mexico signed by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, and a Feb. 4, 2011, declaration signed by Obama with Canada called "Beyond the Border: A Shared Vision for Perimeter Security."
7. When Mexican truck drivers have their layovers and turn-arounds in the U.S., what's to prevent them from enjoying a frolic and diversion? They could use that time to father a baby who would then be proclaimed a U.S. citizen and get generous financial benefits and handouts provided by U.S. taxpayers.
8. We can assume that Mexican truck drivers will not be required to speak and read English, as U.S. law requires. The previous secretary of transportation, Mary Peters, stated at a Senate hearing that if drivers respond to test questions in Spanish, the test-taker nevertheless checks the box that they are "English proficient."
9. While U.S. truck drivers are strictly limited to the number of hours per day they can be on the road, there is no way to figure out how many hours a Mexican truck driver has been on the road when he clocks in at the border. Has he been driving the typical Mexican 20-hour day?
10. Mexican trucks will make highway safety for Americans a major problem. We have no way to know a Mexican driver's record of accidents, alcohol or drugs, or a Mexican truck's record of brakes or emissions. Mexico doesn't bother with records or regulations.
Don't let anybody get by with saying that NAFTA requires us to admit Mexican trucks because it's a treaty. It isn't -- NAFTA never complied with the treaty provision in the U.S. Constitution and is merely a law passed by Congress that can be changed or overturned.
Tell your member of Congress to take action to cancel Obama's truck deal with the Mexican president. Solo deals like this one cannot be tolerated under constitutional government.

Whites can and do hate other Whites merely for being White. This year’s White Privilege Conference will be held tomorrow in Bloomington Minnesota.
The attendees will be barraged with charges of social injustice and encouraged to feel guilty for the low estate of every “person of color” (plus homosexuals as well – of course) around the world.
They will be told their lifestyle is keeping the Red Black Brown Yellow Lavender man down, and that only by empting their wallets can they gain the necessary absolution they’ll need to survive until next year’s conference.
What the WPC says
This paragraph, (proving that “White Privilege” certainly does not extend to an ability to write in English), shows us how sick with White guilt the bunch at WPC actually is.
“Access to privilege doesn’t determine one’s outcomes, but it is defiantly as asset that makes it more likely that whatever talent, ability, and aspirations a person with privilege has will result in something positive for them.”

To the WPC crowd White Privilege means the following “advantages” come with being White.
Not having to fear physical attack when out in public. This is of course laughable on its face because available data proves Whites are the victims of Black perpetrated crimes 39 times more frequently than the reverse.

We’re having the wrong argument about spending. Of course, we can’t afford the trillions being blown in useless and outright destructive government programs. But, that line of reasoning suggests that when they economy is smokin hot, we really should be paying for self esteem classes for child molesters.
Most government spending is manifestly unconstitutional. Our Founders, in their wisdom, delegated just a few powers to the federal government–essentially, those functions that nobody else could do.
Defending the country, for example, is a legitimate function of the government. Naturally, defense is the only spending liberals are ever willing to cut.
The same people who cannot find a right to keep and bear arms anywhere in the 2d Amendment are resolute in their delusion that a constitutional right to tax payer funded abortion on demand exists.
Liberals are bleating about protecting their pet programs, be it cowboy poetry or imaginary Planned Parenthood mammograms; Republicans keep getting sucked into debates about the worthiness of the program, ignoring the fact that the Constitutional doesn’t allow funding for any of it.
Maybe the world is a better place for having a cowboy poetry festival. Fine. Have it. Just don’t force the taxpayers to surrender their hard earned cash to finance it.
Or kindly point me to the part of the Constitution that allows the government to confiscate money from the citizenry to pay for pig odor analysis.

General Chamberlain describes this incident in the following words:

He wheeled his horse, facing me, touching him gently with the spur, so that the animal slightly reared, and, as he wheeled, horse and rider made one motion, the horse's head swung down with a graceful bow, and General Gordon dropped his sword-point to his toe in salutation.

A story broke yesterday concerning the retrofit of more than 100 trucks from Mexico that do not meet United States environmental standards. Our federal government is paying to upgrade these trucks, yet when the state of California and the EPA set new rules for US-owned trucks, they fine companies who do not comply.
This post is not about the environment, it concerns how US trucking companies are treated by the federal and state government as compared to Mexican-owned rigs. From AzCentral.com.
For air-quality regulators, the border creates a legal barrier. State and federal agencies can’t force vehicles manufactured and bought in Mexico to comply with U.S. emissions rules, even though the trucks cross into this country.
So the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality tried a different approach, offering to pay Mexican truck owners to replace old mufflers with new catalytic converters that will reduce harmful diesel emissions by up to 30 percent. The project in effect circumvents the more lax Mexican rules about exhaust systems.

Recently, pretty much on a whim, I decided to monitor the accuracy of radio and TV weather reports, since these affect our daily behavior in all sorts of different ways: what we wear, whether we go in to work or not, look to the repair of the shutters, go up on the ladder to check the rain gutters, don’t forget the sunglasses, etc. I gave the weather experts one week to prove their credentials and began keeping careful score.

We’ll accept the fact that we need to be taken to the proverbial woodshed over one of those errors.
Officer John McClane did not fire at the police car in the original “Die Hard” movie as we stated. It was one of the terrorists. We stand corrected, and stand even more amazed how many people are so astute in their movie trivia but have no idea what the actual eligibility issue is all about.
