Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced the end of color-coded terror alert system that has marked U.S. airports since the Sept. 11, 2011 attacks, replacing it with what she calls a more specific system that will address targeted threats.
Under the new system, there will only be two categories when alerts are necessary: "elevated threat" and "imminent threat." Alerts will be issue to specific areas of concerns, not nationwide. They will also be delivered via traditional and social media.
Napolitano said the terror threat has changed over since the 9/11 attacks, so it was time for the alert system to change too.

PHOENIX - Arizona is considered the "Ground Zero" of the immigration debate, but the names most synonymous with the issue were left out of a White House conference on immigration reform.
Mayors and police chiefs from New York, San Antonio, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia joined former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, the CEO of Facebook, officials from JP Morgan Chase, the Bishop of Salt Lake, and other so-called "stake-holders" at the White House Summit on Tuesday.
"How could they not include us in this conversation," asked Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu.
Neither Babeu nor Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio were invited.
"Why does the Department of Justice avoid me with all my experience in Mexico? I have more experience than any politician has. Why don't they invite me?" questioned Arpaio.

Conservatives appear confused as to what terms most accurately describe President Barack Obama and his Administration. Some use the terms liberal and left-wing interchangeably. Others say Obama's rhetoric smacks of Marxism, while the tactics employed by his minions appear to be Stalinist.
With regard to the claim that Barack Obama is a liberal, one can make the argument that perfect examples of political Liberalism are former New York City Mayor Ed Koch and Connecticut's Senator Joe Leiberman. Both democrats and both believing that government is best able to remedy social problems, they still maintain that a militarily strong America makes for a safe America.
Clearly, President Obama is not an Ed Koch or Joe Leiberman liberal.
Some believe that President Obama more resembles El Dulce himself, Benito Mussolini, the consummate fascist.
The fact is that there are many terms being thrown around these days -- Marxist, socialist, liberal, fascist, even communist -- to describe President Obama's beliefs and policies.
In his 2006 book Sinisterism: Secular Religion of the Lie, author and historian Bruce Walker takes his readers into the world of the 20th century power cults of Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin, with particular emphasis on Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy.

This year will be the first year since 1958 that the federal government will not have sold a lease for offshore drilling, and Republicans say this is fueling skyrocketing prices at the pump.
Congress opened the nation's coasts to drilling when gas hit $4 per gallon in 2008, but the Obama administration effectively reinstated the ban last year by placing the Alaskan, Atlantic and Pacific coasts off-limits to drilling, as well as Florida's west coast.
"We need to look at the actions of this administration, which are leading to more of a domestic shortage of energy production in this country – whether you are looking at the outer continental shelf or whether you are looking at offshore lease sales," said House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Doc Hastings, R-Wash.
The chairman told WND that comments made by Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar make it seem the administration has a political agenda behind its unwillingness to expand domestic oil drilling.
More than 12,000 jobs in the oil drilling sector have been lost as a direct result of the drilling moratorium the Obama administration imposed last May in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon disaster.

Birthers demand to see a birth certificate. Would it help? I don't think so. I have a professional interest in this bit of racist politics. My life as a historian revolves around looking for documents, checking their authenticity, deciphering their many meanings, and explaining to others how I interpret them. (Apr. 19, 2011) — On April 18, 2011, The Post & Email spoke with Dr. Orly Taitz just prior to the announced veto by Arizona Governor Janice Brewer of the legislation which would have required candidates for the office of president to provide proof of “natural born Citizenship” status.
Since that time, Taitz has launched a recall campaign against Brewer which can be signed by any Arizona registered voter.
On April 15, Taitz was interviewed by John King of CNN, who labeled her “the leading figure in the birther movement.” Before the interview commenced, King expressed skepticism over the contention that the Arizona bill was not “aimed” at Barack Hussein Obama.
During the telecast, King admitted that what he called the “Certificate of Live Birth,” which he held up to the cameras, is not a complete birth record. He asked his other guest, a pollster, if “the president has to do something more proactively” to convince the public that he was born in Hawaii.
When Taitz held up documents which she claimed proved that Obama is using a stolen social security number, the pollster interrupted Taitz and claimed that her statements arose from racism. When he asked Taitz if the eligibility question would have arisen if Obama had been white, Taitz answered, “Yes.”
